ABeligan2b1Anamaria Beligan is a Romanian-born writer currently living in Melbourne. She writes in English and Romanian. She is a graduate of the Film Academy in Bucharest and has a Masters in Applied Linguistics (Monash University). Her writings appeared in Australian publications such as: Quadrant, Picador New Writing, RePublica, Voices, University of Queensland Press; in Romanian publications, such as: Literatorul, Moftul Roman, Ramuri, Luceafarul, Orizont, ARC, Vatra, Familia; and in online publications Exquisite Corpse, Respiro, Lolocur.

A collection of her stories, entitled “A Few More Minutes with Monica Vitti”, was published by Polirom (Romania) in 1998 and by Equator Publishers (Melbourne) in 2002 and was very well received by the critics, being shortlisted for the 2003 Steele Rudd Best Short Story Collection Award.

Anamaria’s first novel, “Letters to Monalisa”, was published by Polirom (Romania), in 1999, and featured on the national best seller lists for several months. A second collection of short stories, entitled “Love is a Trabant”, was published by Curtea Veche (Romania) in 2003.

Another novel, “”, appeared in Australia in September 2006. Its Romanian translation was launched in Bucharest and Timisoara in November 2005.

Anamaria’s third novel, “Windermere: Love at Second Sight”, was launched in Romania in October 2009 and has received excellent reviews. The English version was launched at the Melbourne Writers Festival in August 2010.

In 2011, Editura Litera (Bucharest) published an anthology of Anamaria’s short fiction entitled “A Remarkable Skull” (Un craniu remarcabil) and in 2012 Editura Limes (Cluj) published the second edition of her novel “Scrisori către Monalisa”.

The Literature Board of the Australia Council for the Arts has generously supported many of Anamaria’s projects.

All of Anamaria’s English volumes are in the process of being published in e-book form.
